Why Join SigEp?

If you are wondering what the members of Sigma Phi Epsilon are all about, and what our chapter represents, we can sum it up for you with our three Cardinal Principles: Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love.

Virtue: What is and what is not virtuous has always and will be relative based on the individual. Is a person virtuous if he regularly attends church? Is he virtuous if he actively participates in community service? Who knows? For us to say we are virtuous would be presumptuous to say at least, but you won't know unless you meet some of our members and get to know them.

Diligence: We accept no less than every member's best effort in every thing he does. Period. We are not simply a place to stay and a house to party in, we have requirements for every member no matter what his age or number of years in the Chapter. The pursuit of the Balanced Man, which is central to every member, requires 100 percent effort in every thing we do.

Brotherly Love: There are bonds that can exist between people that surpass simple friendship. Whether you are a teammate on a basketball team, band members in high school, or simply co-workers, there are experiences shared that you alone participate in. These are the kind of experiences we at Sigma Phi Epsilon share all throughout our college career. It is virtually impossible for fifty men living together to all get along and be friends, but our Brotherly Love ties us together as tightly as friendship ever could. One and all, we are always there for each other, no matter the situation. We provide academic support, moral encouragement, and a fun time with whatever we do. Sigma Phi Epsilon is much more than our local Chapter. It is a national institution, and the brothers provide support to each other, no matter what side of the country we are on.

If these are the types of things that interest you, and you feel would make your college career a more fulfilling one, stop by and talk to one of the guys. You'll soon find this isn't just words, but the way we live our lives.

The Balanced Man Program:

To ensure that the Fraternity achieved its vision in undergraduate chapters, a committee of Fraternity leaders gathered to develop a new four-year membership development program. Specifically, the committee envisioned a continuous membership development program which would address the following undergraduate and chapter needs:

- Little involvement of older members
- Poor community involvement
- Limited campus involvement
- Poor understanding of the values articulated in the Fraternity's Ritual
- Limited focus on good leadership practices, including goal setting, mentoring, and respect for self and others
- With the assistance of volunteers and undergraduates, the committee created the Balanced Man Program.
- Furthermore, Sigma Phi Epsilon will go beyond Phi Beta Kappa when chapters demolish the "frat boy" stereotype through focusing on the development of a sound mind and a sound body. The Balanced Man Program is the best tool to use to reach this goal.

The Program
The Balanced Man Program is a four year membership development program implemented in chapters on a voluntary basis. Implementation began in Fall of 1992.

The Balanced Man Program appeals to undergraduates because it concentrates on individual and chapter development. In particular, the BMP focuses on mentoring, campus and community involvement, and the Ritual. The BMP also focuses on the development of a sound mind and a sound body.
